Rugby World Cup 2015

Rugby World Cup 2015

Well folks it’s here a full month of rugby, yes the pinnacle of 4 years of blood sweat and tears – it’s the Rugby World Cup. It’s like Christmas Day and all the matches are the many presents, yes folks our World Cup is kicking off tonight with Commonwealth countries with England v Fiji (since they both are in white jerseys the home team change their kit). Who knows maybe there is an upset on the cards? Keep an eye on the Fijian scrum half… One to watch

After the breath taking final day of the 6 nations, which anyone who was watching would agree was the most thrilling day of rugby they have ever seen. This lead up into the World Cup gets the nerves tingling. With mixed results and thrilling upsets in the Tri nations this year the Wallabies (Aus) beating the All Blacks and Pumas (Arg) beating Spingboks (South Africa), there is that feeling that anything could happen.

Interesting facts for you New Zealand have never made the finals of the World Cup in the northern hemisphere, let’s keep it that way!!! It must be down to our beautiful weather here.

All the teams in Pool D have played all seven Rugby World Cup tournaments, but Ireland have yet to appear in a semi-final. Of the teams in this pool France have the best record by reaching the finals 3 time but alas always bridesmaid but never the bride.  Strangely, Ireland has never played either South Africa or England in a RWC match. They have never lost to Romania, Izzurri (Italy) or Canada in any World Cup matches but have never beaten France in a World Cup match either.

One last interesting fact is in 1991 Ralph Keyes Outhalf for Ireland took home the golden boot even though he played 2 games less than the players who came in 2nd Michael Lynagh and 3rd Gavin Hastings two of the arguably greatest players to play the game.

So who do you think is going to win the World Cup??? My money is on our boys in Green how will they do it??? Well here is my prediction

Quarter finals,
South Africa v Australia – SA win
New Zealand  v France – Fra win
Ireland v Argentina – Ire win
England v Scotland – Eng win

Semi-finals
South Africa v France – SA win
Ireland v England – Ire win

Finals
South Africa v Ireland
Ireland to win by a nose hair!!!

6 nation & world champs would be fitting way for Paul O Connell to bow out from international rugby!!!

Ireland kick off their campaign against Canada this Saturday, so dust off the old jersey, throw it on and get behind our nation.
